PROTECT AMERICA FROM CELLS: BRING TROOPS HOME
A massacre at Fort Hood yesterday showed that terrorists have infiltrated our military. Reports are that Army Major Nidal Malik Hassan may have been part of a terrorist cell. If not, then he acted on his own beliefs which are counter-American. Cells throughout the U.S. are increasing. If you have doubts about that read the following from today’s New York Daily News: “The gunman in the Fort Hood massacre hollered “Allahu Akbar!” before embarking on a bloody rampage that left more than a dozen dead, an onlooker told investigators. “We do have a witness who reported that,” Col. John Rossi said Friday morning. “Allahu Akbar” means “God is great” in Arabic.
Dr. Walid Phares, one of the directors of Foundation For Defense of Democracies, stated in an interview yesterday that the number of cells here in America is growing and that the FBI and law enforcement agencies have stopped one cell every month over the past eight years. Now, according to Phares, the cells are “mushrooming” and there are arrests of one every two weeks. This is a significant leap. Phares also stated that the shooting at Ft. Hood was the first major terror attack here since 9/11.
Each day we see film footage of people in Iraq or Afghanistan shouting “death to Americans.” It is time to bring our troops home to protect American soil. We will never change cultures which are so different from ours. Perhaps we should not try. Let them work out their differences, fight among themselves and put troops on OUR streets to protect our homeland. Enough. It is enough.

i can’t agree more with you. we don’t have any business over there, it is not our war. it is a religious battle and one that cannot be won.
have a wonderful day my friend…hugz!
p.s. thanks for putting my widget up! i appreciate it greatly!

PJ,
It really is a religious war, isn’t it? We would be better served if there was more focus on our own homeland than on theirs.
My pleasure putting you widget on. Your products are just awesome and I hope our readers try them!
Hugz to you, my friend.

What you are proposing (troops on OUR streets to protect our homeland) sounds very much like martial law. Or, at the very least, a military takeover of our civilian law enforcement.
Surely that is not what you have in mind?
admin on 07 Nov 2009 at 10:03 am #
Len,
I am not suggesting martial law, though I understand how that could have been interpreted. I am, however, suggesting that our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan are in no-win circumstances. The hue and cry has been to fight terrorists on their ground post 9/11. Things have changed. Not only are our efforts in the above mentioned countries futile, but the enemy may lie within our own borders in cells which are, per articles noted in the post, increasing at alarming rates. My suggestion is that the military focus be on protecting Americans from those cells. Counter-insurgency? Where would it be more effective, here or there?
Harrison on 07 Nov 2009 at 1:09 pm #
Ha ha they shouted “death to America” in the 60s, 70s, the 80s, the 90s, and the 00s. I seem to remember a terrorist cell in the US prior to September 11th but by the 12th they were all gone. Wonder why?
You seem to be under the illusion that if we just pull up everything and go and hide people will leave us alone. Doesn’t work… never worked… never will work because it’s just that… an illusion.
admin on 07 Nov 2009 at 1:31 pm #
Harrison,
I do not think that all the terrorists here were gone after 9/11. They are patient and…wait. I have read many articles from a variety of sources which suggest that cells of terrorists here are rapidly growing. Several plots have been thwarted by our Homeland Security, much to their credit. But these terrorists are nothing, if not smart.
We finally did leave Vietnam and that country has flourished. I just don’t think Democracy is the right “fit” for all countries. I do not think that if we leave Iraq and Afghanistan the terrorists “will leave us alone.” To the contrary, I believe they will make every effort to strike us here. Why not have our troops mobilized against the enemy within?
Len on 07 Nov 2009 at 5:15 pm #
Thanks for the clarification, Cher. I agree with you that there is very little (if anything) we can accomplish in either Iraq or Afghanistan. Those countries do not, contrary to what our friends on the right believe, belong to us. It is not up to us to dictate to the citizens of those countries the kinds of governments they should have or the kinds of lives they should live. That being said, the idea of any military, even our own, patrolling our streets kind of scares me.
And, no, Harrison, the terrorists within the United States borders did not just up and disappear on September 12, 2001. It would be extremely naive of anybody to believe that they did. The correct way to fight them, however, was not a trumped-up war in Iraq… a country which never attacked us and which never harbored terrorists until we invaded and opened the doors for them.

It is against the law to station US troops in American cities unless either the Constitution is modified or Congress authorizes it, it’s called the Posse Comitatus Act:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posse_Comitatus_Act
So clearly “Why not have our troops mobilized against the enemy within?” is a ruse.
Only things like the Patriot Act and better communications between the NSA, FBI, CIA, and local law enforcement can protect us.
The original statement in your article was to pull troops out to protect people domestically but, as I have shown, that is against the law.
And should the Posse Comitatus Act be repealed that would essentially mean martial law and, in this case, the sh** will have already hit the fan.
And regarding Vietnam you ignore that the Communists there murdered at least 200,000 people in “people’s tribunals.”
Not what I’d call a success story.
Don’t you remember the Boat People of the 70s?
admin on 07 Nov 2009 at 10:01 pm #
Len,
I would not want troops patrolling our streets either. I guess I just want them at the ready. Here. We are losing so many in our Armed Services, and many believe it is unwarranted in Iraq and Afghanistan.
I do believe that extremist groups are spreading, and I don’t want the alarms to go off without adequate protection at home. What did we do with all of our troops before these two wars? You know, I can hardly remember….
admin on 07 Nov 2009 at 10:11 pm #
Harrison,
Troops would only be mobilized (my word) here if indeed the need arose and OUR GOVERNMENT felt it would be necessary. Don’t you recall troops on the streets after the assassination of Martin Luther King? I do. Here in Pittsburgh we had armed National Guard and tanks on the streets. Entire communities were burning and rioting was going on. It was frightening, but the additional protection was warranted.
Harrison on 08 Nov 2009 at 12:46 am #
If we are speaking of civil unrest then National Guard troops would be used… however if we are speaking of terrorist cells then only something such as a nuclear detonation would require the number you suggest we would need if we pulled our troops from overseas. I trust our intelligence agencies would never fail us to such a degree (although if Democrats stay in power long enough maybe they would).
Bringing home the troops to protect the homeland strikes me as a straw man argument.
And what about the 200,000+ Vietnamese who were murdered by the Communists after we pulled out of Vietnam so they could “flourish.”
Are you okay with 200,000 Iraqis and 200,000 Afghans getting slaughtered?
And I know what you’re going to say… our troops have killed plenty of innocent people. My response is that the sanctions put upon Iraq during the time of Saddam Hussein by the Clinton regmine resulted in the deaths of over 1 million people. Don’t believe me? Look it up.

America (and the UK) is paying a high price for its illegal war in Iraq, which is indeed a religious war started by GW Bush and supported by Christian fundamentalists! At least that’s the perception in Iraq. All other reasons such as WMD and support Al Quada is never found…
The war in Afghanistan however was legal and supported by the UN.
Look what will happen after the Americans will withdrew from Iraq? Free space for Al Quada and Iran and other notorious groups. Yes, the USA did a great job…on the contrary.
admin on 08 Nov 2009 at 8:49 am #
Harrison,
From what I have read, we have 1000 bases in other countries. Bringing our troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan would still leave many troops in strategic areas. You are speaking of worse case scenarios in talking about “nuclear detonation.” Actually, what I am concerned about is the rapid growth of cells and the implication of infiltration into our most unsuspecting citizenry. If it were nukes, nothing and no one could help.
And my response would not be about the ‘killing of innocent people’ in those two countries. Many, troops and innocents, are being killed by bombs from extremists within those countries. They don’t want us there. We cannot super-impose beliefs nor lifestyles.
admin on 08 Nov 2009 at 8:52 am #
Hans,
Even P.M. Gordon Brown is threatening to pull British troops from Afghanistan due to the rampant corruption there. Our presence has not, and probably cannot stop that. It is not a winnable situation. The Russians left, didn’t they?
DorothyL on 08 Nov 2009 at 7:31 pm #
It has been said that this has been going on for years…then why is it just now being addressed and so focused on?
Why did the politicians wait so long to do something to correct all of this?
None of this makes any sense at all.
The politicians have already proven since the first war that the people are not a priority…what makes it so different now?
It is murder and I have no other words for it.

DorothyL,
The President’s military advisers have requested an additional forty thousand troops to “win” in Afghanistan. Specifically, it was General McChrystal who requested this.
The people in Afghanistan do not want us there imposing our mandates for their country. They are a different culture with many religious variables. Who are we to mandate? Years ago I thought we should be there, and not in Iraq, because that is where the terrorists and bin Laden supposedly were. Today those people have spread globally. I am now more concerned than ever about the safety of our country.
Simon Holmes on 09 Nov 2009 at 12:14 pm #
Well said our soldiers need to be at home with their families, not fighting the wars of politicians who seem hell bent on causing more problems than they solve.
admin on 09 Nov 2009 at 12:24 pm #
Simon,
I suppose if I believed we were at war for a righteous cause, I would not feel so strongly about our being in Afghanistan. We do not belong there, trying to change a culture and its own diversity into something we have.
Find the terrorist cells throughout the world and knock them out.
DorothyL on 11 Nov 2009 at 4:15 pm #
I understand totally that we are interfering. My question is why on earth and for what reason did they ever step into that war to begin with? One thing is for certain….we cannot even keep our own country at peace never mind sticking our guns into another’s issues.
